Kyle Craig Named Student of the Month
July 18, 2022 — BCC’s latest Student of the Month, Kyle Craig, is a Disabled Military Veteran who is determined to let nothing stand in the way of making a better life for himself and his four-year-old daughter. Kyle is working toward his Associate in Engineering degree and received a well-deserved surprise when asked to a meeting in the college’s Board Room. BCC President Gene Smith and other faculty and staff members greeted him, including one of the two instructors who nominated him for this award.
“Kyle is my best student with an A+ in DFT 170,” said instructor James David McWhite. “He always comes prepared and goes farther than the other students to learn the material. He never misses class and is the first to arrive and the last to leave.“
It turns out that Kyle is not only an outstanding student but a talented photographer as well. Kyle has made quite an impression with his photography as part of his work in the UNCW CCURE Honors 191 Research & Discovery course. “Kyle has stepped up to engage in the class project,” said Dr. Kimberly Jones. “This course is an introduction to undergraduate research and focused on bottlenose dolphins of the Cape Fear River. Students are using photo-fin identification to study and track this dolphin population. Kyle has taken a leadership role in the class and has done exceptional field work, capturing wonderful pictures of dolphin behavior in the wild.”
Congratulations, Kyle. We are incredibly proud of you and so pleased that you chose to pursue your degree at BCC.
